Can you believe it? Sydney is turning 1 next week! Time just flies. I’ve been photographing Sydney since she was a week old. It has been so fun to watch her grow. I’m amazed every time I see her how much she looks like her dad. (Those of you who know Jimmy are nodding in agreement.) Anyways. Skyler was nice enough to let me give Syd a cupcake for this session. I’m pretty sure we gave her more sugar than a 1 year old should have in a week, but it was REALLY cute and messy. I still have cupcake frosting on my studio floor.

Letters from Iwo Jima
If you are expecting tears of joy during your ceremony you should carry a handkerchief down the aisle with you instead of a wad of toilet paper. It will photograph better and will be a nice keepsake. If you are sentimental you may want to ask for a hankie from your grandparents or have one embroidered for the occasion. If you use blue thread it could be your something blue. Most of the hankies on the sites below cost between $17 - $25.

The Doctor hd Felicia’s Fancys They have the most opstions I’ve seen. They specialize in linens and embrodery.
Bumble Bee Linens - They have lots of cute patterns and lots of options for thread colors.

Lil - Inspirations - Very pretty hankies, and an easy to use website.
The Lace Shop - Pretty hankies, but not many options.

Sarah and I have been best friends since the 8th grade! She got engaged just a few weeks after my wedding and I’m very excited. We’ve been having fun talking about weddings (one of my favorite topics) and I’m looking forward to her ceremony in November. I’m going to be her Matron of Honor and her photographer! We’ll see how that works out. I’m planning on roping in a friend to second shoot so I’m not too bogged down with working. We did our session this Sunday at Camp Ben Mcculloch in Driftwood Texas. I really love the camp grounds and the rental fee for weddings is an amazingly low $100!

Michel Orion Scot (above) - Over the Hills and Far Away
Over the Hills and Far Away explores one family’s unforgettable journey as they travel halfway across the world in search of a miracle to heal their autistic son. This sweeping and emotionally charged story embodies the openness and faith the Isaacson family places in the possibility of trying something extraordinary. Rowan was born in 2001, seven years after his parents met while touring India. His father, Rupert, a British journalist and human-rights activist, and his mother, Kristin, a psychology professor from suburban California, felt the world was their oyster. After their son was diagnosed with autism in 2004, their perfect life began to fall apart. They tried conventional therapies, diets, and medication, all to no avail. Rupert had witnessed the potency of traditional healing and discovered that his son had a special bond with horses. He researched and found a place that combined horseback riding and shamanic healing—Mongolia. The next step was convincing his wife they should take their son to Ulaanbaatar and travel on horseback, searching for the elusive reindeer herders and the most powerful shaman in the country. Accompanied by Rupert’s honest narration, this rich film blends footage from the family’s adventure through the Mongolian countryside with scenes from their life at home in Texas. Bolstered by testimony from autism experts, including Dr. Temple Grandin, this compelling film exquisitely captures an astonishing physical and spiritual journey.

“Emily Hagins is making a zombie movie. It’s feature-length, it’s bloody, and the zombies don’t run; just like it should be. But there’s just one difference between her film and other zombie movies: Emily is twelve. With the help of her mother as agent, crew, and biggest fan, Emily launches an epic adventure in genre filmmaking, battling everything from budget shortfalls to self-doubt, all while coming of age as a teenager. Emily has the vision, and her mom has the driver’s license. Together, their journey is an enlightening look at a growing world of young moviemakers and the bloodiest mother/daughter story you’ve ever seen.” - Slamdance Website

Oh, dear. I’ve often worried this day would come. After dropping out of law school and before becoming a photographer extraordinaire - I starred in Reality TV show called Faking It for TLC. My show Green Thumb to Glue Gun
The Peacekeeper
never aired on TV until NOW!
- Green Thumb to Glue Gun
Compelling US version of the documentary series. Texan Mary Sledd leaves behind her job at her family’s plant nursery to become a stylish domestic diva.
On at 8.00pm on Thursday 22nd January on UKTV People
Those blog readers in England are in luck because you can view the show on UK SKY channel 566 or Virgin channel 206. My American fans will just have to wait for it to get posted to YouTube or Hulu.

Nice make over Mary Sledd! For those who are curious - I found out about casting for the show on Craigslist. I was looking for photography jobs and the reality tv gig was posted under “Creative”. Being on a reality TV show was pretty much what you would expect. Everything was scripted and we’d sometimes have to do the same “scene” a few times. Odd tid-bit… the guy who lived in the penthouse next to mine was blog-ebrity Jason Calcanus. A few months after the show filmed I was on my way to a party at SXSW Interactive to have a drink with Jason when I met a really hunky guy - Scott Owens, who is now my husband. Funny how life works.
