Norman Rockwell - Thanksgiving
Most of my families “secret recipes” come from the back of Cream of Mushroom soup cans. This one is a rare exception – it is from the back of a Jell-o packet. The resulting Jell-o is one of my favorite things to eat at the holidays! It is delisious on it’s own or with turkey + ham. I would include a picture, but it isn’t a very photogenic recipe – so please enjoy this Norman Rockwell painting instead.
Purple Jello
1 (#2) can dark cherries
1 c. crushed pineapple
2 (3 oz.) pkgs. black cherry Jello
1 (3 oz.) pkg. cream cheese
2 c. fruit juice from cherries and pineapple (add water to make 2 c.)
2 (6 oz.) Cokes
1 c. chopped nuts
1 c. crushed pineapple
2 (3 oz.) pkgs. black cherry Jello
1 (3 oz.) pkg. cream cheese
2 c. fruit juice from cherries and pineapple (add water to make 2 c.)
2 (6 oz.) Cokes
1 c. chopped nuts
Heat the juice + water until it boils. Remove from heat and add gelatin.
In a separate bowl add pineapples and cream cheese together and beat until you have cream cheese splatters on the counters and cabinets (or until blended). Pour both mixtures into 9×13 pan. Add cherries. Mix gently. Add cola. Place nuts on top. Chill until congealed.
