Gearing up for ACL

It’s that time of year again! This years ACL is going to be the best yet. There are tons of great bands I’m really excited about shooting. The weather will be PERFECT!! And I’m feeling very inspired photographically. To get ready for the festival I’m buying some extra cute new dresses, riffle earmuffs and of course lots of healthy snacks for fuel. I’m a bad blogger and didn’t publish many of my photos from Lolla so here are a few I liked that didn’t make it on the blog before.

WOW – Foxy Shazam at the Do312 Kickball game!

Lady Gaga (one of my heros) and The Strokes. Oh. I’m so old. The first time I photographed the strokes was in the early outies in London at the NME awards show. They were playing with one of my favorite Austin bands And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead. I really need to dig up those photos.

I super puffy heart Green Day. They were the only poster I had in college. Oh… and Devo. Also totallllly rad.

Asleep on the lawn. Gotta love that. And I always get a kick out of the tons of porta potties.

Another one of my favorite things about the music festivals is seeing old friends. Ben Dickie (rt) and I went to high school at the same time. He had a record label Post Parlo even back then! Ben really inspires me! He has been working in the music industry for more than a decade and he is still an amazingly sweet and honest person. He is also… getting married soon. I would love to photograph his wedding, but he didn’t hire me. AND on the left is Matt Allen (the Ice Cream Man) Matt and I met 5 years ago (I think) at SXSW. He is a regular at the festivals and it is always a treat to get to catch up with what awesome stuff he is doing – like handing out Ice Cream.

Buried Stunt

The Alamo did a premier of the new movie Buried in coffins! Four lucky winners got buried alive for 90 minutes. Pretty cool idea! Just for anyone who is a tech nerd – I took this photo from a cherry picker and used 4 off camera strobes powered by pocket wizards. I hate heights, but I’m really excited about how the photo turned out.

Metropolis : Seaholm Power Plant

This was my first trip inside Seaholm Power Plant and I was not disappointed! The place is amazing inside. Thanks to my “official” photographer status I got to wander around the upstairs. It is really neat and more than a little dangerous up there.

The Golden Hornet Project did an amazing job playing along to the silent film Metropolis. Wish I’d had more time to do portraits of Graham Reynolds and Peter Stopschinski. They are both just so photogenic and REALLY good sports.

Oh… and bonus surprise my old friend David Quinn was working as a prole. David holds a special place in my heart because the first time I kissed my husband was at one of his famous parties in the big white house on Pennsylvania Avenue. We’d been on at least three dates before we kissed – for the record.

Rolling Roadshow New York

Working on the Rolling Roadshow has been one of my favorite assignments – EVER! These photos are from the stop in NYC. The movie was the God Father II and the location was a rooftop in Little Italy (Manhattan). The movie played on three screens and it was a packed house! The last screening was in partnership with Rooftop Films (a really cool organization).

Rolling Road Show – New Jersey

A few photos from the Alamo Drafthouse Rolling Roadshow in Hoboken NJ. They played On The Water Front on an amazing old pier. The weather was beautiful! I was a little disappointed I didn’t see my hero Snookie, but life goes on.

For the record getting the exposure correct for both the city and the screen is REALLY hard!!!
