I Love Lucy!!!

At long last Lucy Lynn O has arrived! January 14 at 3:08pm at 8 pounds 6 ounces and 21 inches. We named little Lucy after our grandmothers, and we could not be any happier to welcome her to our family. She is hands down the most beautiful newborn I’ve ever seen, and she is oh so sweet!

I am very happy to announce we are excepting our first child. Baby Owens is due Jan 1. Scott and I could not be any more excited. It’ll be a few more weeks before we find out if we are having a boy or girl. I was very sick the first three months, but things have gotten much better in the last couple of weeks. The most memorable point in the pregnancy so far was when we were at a party and someone said “pork belly slider” and I threw up at the mere mention of such a delicacy. Thankfully, I’ve stopped throwing up, for the most part.

My friend Nakia is in the final 8 on The Voice! Fingers crossed he makes it to the next round. I thought these old photos were fun and belonged on the blog. These are from Willie Nelson’s ranch. Fun times.

Austin Chrnoicle Book is Out!

Wow. At long last the Austin Chronicle Music Anthology is finished. Austin Powell and Doug Freeman did a great job of combing the Chrnoicle Archives and putting together a magnificent book. The book includes some of my photographs and lots of photographs I did take. The book is really special to me because my first job ever (back in 1996) was photographing bands for the Chronicle. I worked for the paper for more than a decade and it will always have a very special place in my heart. Kate Messer, Raoul Hernandez and Taylor Jones were the first people to champion my photography and I have them to thank for helping me start my career.

Save Zilker Elementary and Barton Hills Elementary

I’m not much for politics, but I feel an obligation to speak up. Due to budget shortfalls AISD has suggested that Zilker Elementary and Barton Hills Elementary (and six other schools) should be closed. Both Barton Hills and Zilker are rated exemplary and both have full enrollment. I am outraged at how short sighted this plan is and I’m very upset that these schools may not be an educational option for our (future) children.

So I’m getting involved. If this is important to you – get involved too!
