It has been more than 2 years since Canon put out the 1ds Mark III (my camera) and today they annouced the newest addition to the 1 series line. The Canon 1d Mark IV. All of the buttons appear to the in the same places - thank goodness I hate it when Canon moves buttons. However, there is a new dot between the EOS and 1. This new camera is supposed to have an improved autofocus system. You can read my reports on the Mark III focus problems. Not sure if I will get this camera when it comes out in December. I purchased a 5d Mk II a couple of weeks ago for my second shooters and I’m LOVING using it as a back up. Maybe I’ll hold out and see what the 1ds MKIV is like.

The Diana is a plastic medium format camera that gives a whimsical unfocused look. They have a new adapter for both Canon and Nikon digital cameras that give that special Diana look to digi photos. The GALLERIES on the lomo website have some cool samples. I’m interested in trying one of these out, but I’m not sure how well it would work with my style. Seems like if you are going for the cheap lens look the Lensbaby does more.

. This nifty little gadget is a giant hard drive that backs itself up automatically and has a number of features to protect against hard drive failure. My Drobo has 4 hard drives to keep my info safe. It works very fast and is silent! I’m also keeping a second copy of everything apart from the Drobo at home. I’m very happy so far with my new data management solution.

The Alternative :: 8Bay eSATA Enclosure
The other unit I thought about getting was an 8bay eSATA Port Mulitplier Enclosure. The nice thing about that type of unit is that it can easily hold up to 8tb of info in one box. I choose not to go with this solution because it required using PCI and PCIX ports instead of just plain old USB. I’m not much for opening up my computer and would have to take my machine to a computer store to have the specail connetor cards put in the PCI slots. This solution was also less attractive to me because it does not monitor the drive health or auto-back up. For someone who is more computer literate this might be the best solution. A number of computer parts companies offer these like MacGurus.

Ok, I admit that I’m avoiding my actual work to play with some new portrait design software from Designaglow. The templates make it easy to layout photos to give customers ideas. Pretty cool.
